Volunteer Background Check Process
Edgewood’s School Board recognizes that certain programs and activities can be enhanced by engaging volunteers with specialized knowledge or skills to support staff responsible for conducting them. Before allowing an individual to serve as a volunteer, Edgewood Schools requires a criminal history check in accordance with Board Policy 8120.
To help ensure the ongoing safety of our students, Edgewood conducts volunteer background checks through Navigate 360 Volunteer. This service allows the corporation to receive continued arrest alerts in real time beyond the date the initial background check was completed.
Each volunteer will be required to pay a fee before completing the online background check. In some cases, additional fees may apply for individuals who have lived in other states or for certain Indiana searches. These additional charges typically cover researcher or court fees and must also be paid before the background check can be processed. If additional payment is required, the volunteer will receive an email requesting payment, usually within a few days.
Once the background check has been submitted and approved, the Volunteer Background Check is valid for five years.
Completing the Background Check
- Pay the required background check fee through Square.
- After payment is completed, you will be redirected to Navigate 360 Volunteer.
- Complete and submit the online background check form.
- If additional fees are required, you will receive an email with instructions for payment.
- Once the background check is approved, it will remain valid for five years.
Important: The background check process is not complete until the Navigate 360 Volunteer form has been fully completed and submitted.
Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO)
A key component to Edgewood’s success is the healthy relationship among staff and families within each building’s Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO). These dedicated groups of volunteers create fun opportunities for the students’ families to engage with one another, assist school personnel with fundraising, supply needs, and classroom/event preparations, as well as devote themselves to making the students’ and staff’s yearly experience the best it can be. Each year may look a little different, but these teams are ESSENTIAL!
